Tenby and Caldey Island

Caldey Island is not far from Tenby and there are many boat trips that run from Tenby to Caldey Island on a regular basis. If you go to the Harbour in Tenby you are sure to find a boat trip leaving to go to Caldey Island soon!
Caldey Island is famous as it is owned and still run by the Cistercian Monks. They to this day live a simple lifestyle and live alongside a village that has a small community. The residents at Caldey Island regularly make and grow home-grown produce that includes such items as ice cream, chocolate, clotted cream, yoghurt, shortbread and also items such as hand lotions and perfumes from the wild flowers that grow on Caldey Island.
The boats normally run from Tenby to Caldey Island every 15 minutes or so from May through to September. So, you are never going to be disappointed if you want to visit the spectacular and interesting Caldey Island.
There is a peaceful and calming atmosphere on Caldey Island. The religious lifestyle is summed up by the beautiful, monastic buildings and the simple and enjoyable lifestyle of the residents. There are tours of the actually monastery available, but only men can actually go on this as this is their religious belief. There is a lighthouse, a shop, some tea gardens, a museum, a church and an old priory to visit while on Caldey Island.
You can buy the produce that the monks make from Caldey Island in Tenby in many of the gift shops. You will not be disappointed and neither will other people when you take back some local, home-grown presents!
Caldey Island is a must see for all people who go to Tenby. With boats so easily accessible from Tenby Harbour there is no excuse to go and see the wonderfully beautiful and scenic Caldey Island.
